Hello Charlotte, thank you for creating some beautiful bespoke The Light Direction theme products for us. Before I introduce the first in the series please tell us a little about your business CHCeramics. How did you get started with your hand crafted gift business and what do you enjoy most about creating ceramics?

Charlotte Replies :
I studied ‘Surface Decoration’ at degree level for 3 years at University where I specialised in ceramics, and have been continuing to develop my work from my workshop at home since. I love my returning customer base, enjoying making pieces that other people like enough to buy and enjoy themselves, having my own little workshop where I love to spend lots of time. The work in my workshop varies from day to day – it generally involves slip casting vases, glazing, rolling out and prepping clay, hand building, loading the kiln, packing orders, pinning up inspirational images on my ‘mood’ wall, and drinking lots of tea!

Where do you get your inspiration from Charlotte?

Charlotte Replies :
My inspiration comes from the natural world and the landscape/seascape, in particular the close up detail of textures, patterns and colours of organic surfaces.

Having spent time on The Light Direction website and blog and chatting with you about the whole project, it all looks like a very exciting opportunity and I would love to be a part of it, supplying official merchandise based on the ‘Beside the Sea’ theme. It really is a fantastic concept to feature real small businesses in your great story The Light Direction.

Ok so It is time to introduce your Beach Hut design. #Squeeeee I love it!

Charlotte Replies :
After we discussed the brilliant seaside theme mood board you sent to me I knew I needed to make a beach hut as they are very visually interesting and also play a part in the story. I spent some time creating textures to reflect the beach theme too.

I have really enjoyed working with different materials such as melted glass to create the right colour and texture for these pieces.

The finished item is a love to be beside the sea beach hut plaque.

This is a really versatile piece of decorative art and will look great in any room of the house.

Because the ceramics are bespoke they each use the same colours and textures but are all different in some way.

I have used colours and textures that reflect an ocean and underwater theme.

The contrast of the textures make the art really tactile and give it a really natural authentic beside the sea feel.

The I love to be beside the sea beach hut plaque is finished off with a deep ocean colour ribbon.
