Hi Charlotte, thanks so much for making some beautiful bespoke The Light Direction theme products for us. Before I introduce this gorgeous piece of art do tell us about your business CHCeramics.

Charlotte Replies :
I studied ‘Surface Decoration’ for 3 years at University where I specialised in ceramics for my degree. I have been continuing to develop my work from my workshop at home ever since. I love my returning customer base, I enjoy making pieces that other people like enough to buy and enjoy themselves, having my own little workshop where I love to spend lots of time. The work in my workshop varies from day to day – it generally involves slip casting vases, glazing, rolling out and prepping clay, hand building, loading the kiln, packing orders, pinning up inspirational images on my ‘mood’ wall, and drinking lots of tea!

So where do you usually get your inspiration from Charlotte?

Charlotte Replies :
My inspiration usually comes from the natural world around me. I love looking at landscapes and seascapes in particular the close up detail of textures, patterns and colours of organic surfaces.

Having spent quite a while researching the project and finding out about The Light Direction characters and story plus chatting with you about the whole project, it all looks like a very exciting opportunity and I would love to be a part of it, supplying official merchandise based on the ‘Beside the Sea’ theme. It would be a very exciting and enjoyable opportunity, bringing traffic to and benefiting both of our websites in return. It really is a fantastic concept to feature real small businesses in your great story The Light Direction.

I love the possibilities with the seaside theme. Having studied your mood board I wanted to make something that would capture the location and scene that Emma loves so much in the story.

I have really enjoyed working with different materials such as melted glass to create the right colour and texture for these pieces.

I am really happy with the end result and of course each piece of art is unique.

This reflects how although the landscape of the beach scene stays pretty much the same day to day it is still constantly changing with the ebb and flow of the tide.

I have used colours and textures that reflect an ocean seascape theme and added texture for shells and pebbles on the beach.

The art is then placed on a mini wooden easel.
